Swedish Massage
What is Swedish (Relaxation) Massage?
At AG Massage you can book 60, 75, 90, or 120 minute Swedish or Deep Tissue massage.
What happens during a Swedish Massage?
In Swedish massage your therapist lubricates the skin with massage oil or lotion and performs various massage strokes that warm up the muscle tissue, release tension, and gradually break up muscle adhesions. Before the massage, your therapist will ask you about any injuries or conditions that they should be aware of. You will fill out a brief medical history intake form prior to your massage, but your massage therapist will leave time to discuss any goals you may have for the session as well.
After the consultation, your therapist instructs you how to lie on the table and then leaves the room so you can changed. You will receive the massage on the massage table with a sheet and blanket covering your body. Your therapist uncovers only the part of the body he/she is working on – a technique called draping. If being nude is out of your comfort zone you can keep your underwear on, or whatever is comfortable for you, but you will never be improperly exposed.
Your therapist will knock or ask if you are ready before entering. He/she may start by working on your back, using various massage strokes that include effleurage, kneading, friction, stretching and tapping. Your therapist will then massage the legs, hips, gluteal muscles, and feet. When done with the back side, they will have you turn over onto your back so they can massage the front of each leg, both arms, neck, shoulders and hands. Abdominal massage may also be part of your session.
Some therapists work in a different order, and all have their own style and techniques. You can ask your massage therapist to spend more time on certain areas, depending on the amount of time you have booked for your massage. If the pressure is too light or too firm, always feel free to speak up and ask your therapist to adjust it.
Swedish Massage is the foundation for several other types of western massage modalities including: Sports Massage, Deep Tissue Massage, Aromatherapy Massage, and more.
